LOST 604: THE SUBSTITUTE - “It’s an inside joke.”
Was anyone else hoping last night that when Locke and Sawyer were climbing down the rope ladder they’d bump into Indiana Jones and Mola Ram? I feel like Sankara stones have to play into this some how.
And sure it’s cool that Smocke chases after young boys in the jungle, just as long as he doesn’t try to get him into his blue van cause that would be creepy.
I thought it was interesting that Locke used to be a man of faith but now he’s a man of science (i.e. biology teacher)…or at least a man of science and gym.
Here are bunch of awesome ideas/theories from last night’s episode:
LOSTPEDIA
THE NUMBERS
If you have followed the Lost ARG’s in between season, you know that THE NUMBERS are the VALENZETTI EQUATION. The Valenzetti Equation was discovered by a mathematician named Valenzetti, that accurately predicts the date in which humanity will extinguish itself. In Season’s 4 & 5, Daniel Faraday talks a lot of “equations” “variables” and “constants”. He says that the Variables are people, (“them” to be more accurately). And now we see The Numbers coinciding with different characters names sketched across a cave wall belonging to Jacob.
Following this, Jacob is trying to bring together a group of people who will exist and save humanity from the end of the world. He has been on the island for so long that he has tried so many combinations of people. The “island” is humanity / earth, and when MIB says to “go home” and screw the island, he is saying to just ascend to heaven and not worry about humans surviving on earth.
*Also note Kate didn’t have a number, but maybe she just didn’t want to give it to Jacob. She’s classy.
The Boy
In the 1st scene the young boy’s arms were bloody which is a reference to Cain and Abel. The “boy” slew his brother (bloody arms) and now is marked so he can’t be killed.
(Who knew the Bible was as cool as LOST?)

The alternate timeline being shown is how everyone’s lives would have played out without any influence from Jacob.  (It seems for the most part they are living much better lives because of that—which confirms my belief, Jacob is a bad dude.)

Also it’s interesting to note Locke’s relationship with his father must be completely different in the Alt. timeline or else he wouldn’t consider inviting him to the wedding or be with Helen.

FROM TOTALLY LOST

We know from season 1 that Boone Carlyle’s mother, Sabrina Carlyle, owned a massively successful wedding business, and that Boone served as the company’s chief operating officer. Methinks the Carlyle family biz will play a role in solving Helen’s catering crisis…

The pictures in Locke’s cubicle were interesting. There was a photo of Locke (with hair) with his father, Anthony Cooper; they looked to be hunting, as we saw them back in ”Deus Ex Macina.” There was also a photo of Locke with Helen in a tropical setting, presumably Hawaii. The curious thing about both photos: Locke appeared to be standing. When and how did Locke become dependent on a wheelchair for pedestrian perambulation?

Also why didn’t this scene happen….
Locke and Sawyer stand on scary cliff — a ladder is at it’s edge.
Sawyer: What’s that?
Smocke: Jacob’s Ladder.
Smocke looks into the camera and winks.
Smocke: (to audience) Nailed it!
